Data storage and protection within charities

 

Data protection has been highlighted by many UK organisations as a key area of spend when it comes to security over the next 12 months, with high-profile media cases driving awareness of this issue in recent years. Over 43% of respondents to a recent ComputerWeekly poll were implementing data protection plans this year, having to balance spending cuts in a time of austerity with increasingly stringent demands surrounding public requirements for secure data.

The charity sector more than ever depends on the security of its data, with donors' details the lifeblood of many third sector organisations. We spoke to decision-makers at UK charities about how they're coping with this increased focus on security, what they're doing to ensure data protection and the challenges on the horizon.
