Financial services in Scotland
The media has recently highlighted the performance of Scotland's financial services sector, which has risen from a low point three years ago when the UK government was forced to intervene and rescue Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS. The sector has grown from that point and emerged relatively unscathed to see increased investment in its own banks and from those seeing the country as a European hub – with thousands of jobs created as a result. Fund management has enjoyed a boost despite a difficult market, with a significant increase in funds under management in Scotland from £650bn in 2010 to £750bn in 2011.
